Boa Constrictor by Shel Silverstein

Loved Shel's poems when I was young :)

Oh, I'm being eaten
By a boa constrictor,
A boa constrictor,
A boa constrictor,
I'm being eaten by a boa constrictor,
And I don't like it--one bit.
Well, what do you know?
It's nibblin' my toe.
Oh, gee,
It's up to my knee.
Oh my,
It's up to my thigh.
Oh, fiddle,
It's up to my middle.
Oh, heck,
It's up to my neck.
Oh, dread,
It's upmmmmmmmmmmffffffffff . . .

I remember this poem. I love Silverstein's poems. The part that always confuses me in this poem is when they say "And I don't like it-- one bit." I am one of those people who get confused with bit and bite. So I always think of it as "And I don't like it--one bite." To me this sounds like they don't like the boa constrictor because all it takes it just one bit.

David,

Interesting poem. You and several of your classmates have posted Silverstein's poetry. I was very surprised to find that it is so popular among people your age.

I really enjoy the onomatopoeia at the end...it really ups the bracket in terms of comedic relief at the end of the poem.

Loved the poem,
I reminded me of a childrens story my cousins read to their brother. The story is called 'Love You Forever' and it always makes me tear up but this poem had a more cheery mood except for the fact that the kid got eaten at the end
